Composition
Meliora is a floral-green eau de parfum for women by Nathalie Lorson, launched in 2013 and named after the dam of a celebrated racehorse. It opens with black currant, red berries, cassis, raspberry and orange blossom, develops rose, lily-of-the-valley and ylang-ylang in the heart, and settles into musk, vanilla, almond and woody notes.
To me this smells like wandering through a berry orchard in Himachal with a basket that's already half-eaten — black currant, red berries, cassis, raspberry, all bursting and tart-sweet, with orange blossom drifting over from the next row. It's juicy in a way that makes your mouth water. Rose and lily-of-the-valley bloom in the heart, fresh and dewy, ylang-ylang adding a creamy tropical edge. It dries down to soft musk and vanilla, almond-sweet, with woody notes keeping it from being pure candy. Fruity, floral, happy. The perfume equivalent of golden-hour light. Beginner-friendly.
