Composition
L'Eau Papier is Diptyque's 2023 eau de toilette by Fabrice Pellegrin, an ode to paper as material and creative vehicle. Roasted sesame embodies ink, mimosa adds powdery floral lightness, and an overdose of musks with blonde woods creates the scent of a blank sheet. Misty, abstract and skin-close — ink absorbing into paper.
To me this smells like a stationery shop in Connaught Place just after it opens — roasted sesame like ink ground fresh, bergamot bright as morning through the shutters, mimosa powdery and yellow as old paper. Then the musks: an overdose of them, clean and skin-close, with blonde woods underneath like the smell of a blank page. Misty, abstract, intimate — ink absorbing into paper. It doesn't project; it whispers, and only to people standing close. Pellegrin's ode to paper is the quietest Diptyque I know — a love letter folded small. Beginner-friendly.
