Composition
Kimonanthe is Diptyque's 2017 Collection 34 eau de parfum, an homage to Japan built around osmanthus and zukoh, the powdered body incense of Japanese tradition. Osmanthus with apricot and camphor opens medicinal-sweet, while cloves, spices, incense, sandalwood and leather deepen it into a smoky, apricot-honeyed haze. Unclassifiable and addictive.
To me this smells like a Kyoto temple storeroom — osmanthus and apricot first, honeyed and medicinal-sweet, camphor sharp as an old wooden chest opened after decades. Cloves and incense smoke rise like zukoh powder on skin, spices prickling, sandalwood and leather deepening it into something dark and contemplative. A homage to Japan in scent form — smoky, apricot-honeyed, utterly uncompromising. It smells like ritual, not perfume. Built around osmanthus and zukoh, the powdered body incense of Japanese tradition — reverent and severe. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
