Aimé Guerlain's 1889 creation is the oldest continuously produced perfume in the world and the first modern abstract fragrance — lavender and citrus over orris and tonka, warming into a vanilla-leather-benzoin base that defined the Guerlinade.
Scent story
To me this smells like opening a 19th-century apothecary drawer — rosemary, bergamot and lemon flashing bright before lavender sweeps in, powdery and calm. Tonka, orris and a whisper of jasmine soften the middle into something velvety, while basil adds a green, almost animalic hum. Then the famous drydown: vanilla, leather, benzoin and spices glowing like embers, sandalwood and amber rounding it all into legend. It is the oldest modern perfume alive — strange, beautiful, and utterly timeless. Beginner-friendly — a living piece of history, surprisingly easy to wear.
