Composition
Released in 2020 as a tribute to a father, evoking the memory of shaving foam and barbershop soap. Soap, aldehydes, musk, timur pepper and pink pepper open into jasmine, rose and lily-of-the-valley, over moss, patchouli, sandalwood and ambroxan. Clean, powdery and nostalgic.
To me this smells like Sunday morning in my father's bathroom, the air thick with shaving foam and the cold metallic clink of his razor against the basin. That hot, clean soap lather — the barbershop kind — with a fizzy aldehydic sparkle and a prickle of pepper, like the aftershave sting he never winced at. Then it softens into something gentler: jasmine and rose from a talcum tin, lily-of-the-valley like the starched handkerchief folded in his shirt pocket. Hours later there's only warm skin left — sandalwood, soft musk, and that powdery moss of an old soap dish by the sink. It is grief dressed up as cleanliness. The kind of clean that hugs you back.
