Composition
Eau de Lierre is Diptyque's 2006 ode to ivy, the creeper of the founders' childhood gardens — a scent that must be invented, since ivy cannot be extracted. Peppered ivy, rosewood and green pepper open into cyclamen, geranium and grey amber, settling into a pale woody musk. Green, leafy and sappy — rolling around in ivy leaves.
To me this smells like being a kid again, rolling around in ivy leaves at the bottom of a garden wall. Since real ivy can't be extracted, this is an invented memory — peppered green leaves, rosewood and green pepper opening sharp and sappy, like crushed stems between your fingers. Cyclamen, geranium and grey amber drift through the heart, cool and watery. It settles into a pale woody musk, the smell of skin after playing outside all afternoon. Green, leafy, and quietly strange — a perfume built from a plant that gives no scent, which might be the most Diptyque thing ever. Beginner-friendly.
