Composition
Cuir Beluga is a unisex eau de parfum from Guerlain, launched in 2005. It opens with Tangerine and Aldehydes. The heart reveals Immortelle and Patchouli settling into a base of Vanilla, Suede, Heliotrope and Amber. Its character is defined by Vanilla, Powdery and Leather accords.
To me this smells like suede gloves left on a vanilla orchid in a greenhouse. Tangerine and aldehydes lift bright and sparkling, then immortelle arrives — that strange, maple-curry flower — with vanilla pouring over everything, thick and golden as custard. The suede is the softest leather imaginable, like the inside of a luxury handbag. Heliotrope powders the base, soft as talc. It's leather for people who don't think they like leather — all softness, no bite. It is proof that leather, done softly, can feel like a lullaby. Beginner-friendly.
