Composition
A 2017 Eau de Toilette flanker of Cool Water developed by Francis Kurkdjian, Antoine Lie and Jean Jacques around a surfing-inspired marine accord. Grapefruit and Sichuan pepper open over a juniper and birch-leaf heart, settling into a sandalwood and patchouli base.
A blast of sea spray and bitter grapefruit hits first, prickled by Sichuan pepper that feels more like white pepper than black. The middle turns greener and woodier with juniper and birch leaf, like wind through coastal pines. It dries down to a faint, slightly sweet salty-woody skin scent of sandalwood and patchouli. Made for Indian summers and gym bags, but be warned: performance is famously weak, so it suits close-quarters daytime wear rather than nights out. An easy, inoffensive beginner pick for hot weather.
