Composition
Castile is Penhaligon's 1998 citrus by Olivier Cresp — layer upon layer of fresh-scrubbed orange. Neroli and petitgrain open into bergamot, orange blossom and rose, over precious woods and musk. Soapy, floral and powdery — a classic neroli cologne with musky tenacity.
To me this smells like the world's most luxurious bath — layer upon layer of fresh-scrubbed orange, as Cresp intended. Neroli and petitgrain open soapy and bright, like a freshly opened bar of good soap, and then bergamot, orange blossom, and rose bloom through, floral and powdery, like clean towels in a sunlit bathroom. Precious woods and musk in the base keep it soft and warm on skin. It is soapy in the way expensive things are soapy — not detergent, but ritual. The scent of someone who has their life together and a very good bathroom. Beginner-friendly.
