Composition
Benjoin Bohème is Diptyque's 2015 oriental woody from Collection 34, an olfactory portrait of an imaginary resident of 34 boulevard Saint-Germain — part British dandy, part Latin bohemian. Benzoin is the star, warmed by Peru balsam, cistus, styrax and Indonesian patchouli, with sandalwood and angelica lending a dusty, bohemian softness. Gentle, creamy and resinous rather than heavy.
To me this smells like the study of an imaginary man who lives at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain — half British dandy, half Latin bohemian, all charm. Bergamot and angelica open bright and slightly dusty, and then benzoin takes over: warm, creamy resin, like vanilla that went to university and came back interesting. Peru balsam, styrax and cistus deepen it; patchouli adds a bohemian earthiness. Sandalwood keeps everything soft and worn-in, like a velvet jacket. It is resinous without being heavy, warm without being sweet — the gentlest oriental you'll meet, and one of the most quietly seductive. Beginner-friendly.
