Composition
Babylon is Penhaligon's 2019 warm woody-ambery — den of iniquity or majestic wonder, its scent is simply divine. Saffron, nutmeg and coriander open into earthy cypriol, over sandalwood, cedarwood and vanilla. Smooth, opulent and gourmand — a decadent warmth bathed in vanilla.
To me this smells like the inside of a spice merchant's tent at dusk. Saffron, nutmeg and coriander flare warm and golden at first — the air thick with things that stain your fingers — and then cypriol arrives with its earthy, almost smoky depth, like roots pulled from dark soil. The sandalwood and cedarwood base is smooth and creamy, vanilla warming it all like lamplight. It is opulent without being heavy, exotic without being strange. The den of iniquity, but make it comfortable. Beginner-friendly.
