Composition
An oud that invents a forest with marine notes: lemon, grapefruit and rosemary pound between freshness and the richness of rose and ginger, on a base of white musk and ambergris.
To me this is a forest that grew out of the sea. Lemon, grapefruit and rosemary crash fresh, then rose and ginger warm the middle, with marine notes giving everything a salty, windswept edge. White musk and ambergris in the base keep it airy. But make no mistake: the aoud is in there, woody and persistent under the freshness, Montale's signature hum. It is the most wearable of his ouds, but wearable-for-Montale still means potent. Fresh on top, wild underneath. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
