Composition
Sophistication and strength in a 2005 woody-spicy classic by Pierre Montale: green cardamom and red pepper open into incense, ebony wood and vetiver, over oud and sandalwood.
To me this smells like walking into a spice merchant's godown in old Delhi, the air thick with green cardamom pods being cracked open and dried red chillies in gunny sacks. Then the incense hits, curling smoke from a temple corner, dark and resinous. Underneath it all, ebony wood and vetiver dry like carved timber, and a ribbon of oud winds through sandalwood in the base. It is warm, dry, almost austere in its power. This is not a crowd-pleaser; it is a statement for someone who already knows they love spice and smoke. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
