Composition
V/S Versus (1998) by Jean-Pierre Bethouart, a floral-fruity edition of the Versus line. Lime, orange and mandarin orange open with a bright citrus sparkle, followed by a warm-spicy floral heart of cinnamon, carnation, jasmine and lily-of-the-valley. The base of cedar and musk is clean, woody and softly sweet.
To me this smells like Christmas morning in a citrus grove. Lime, orange and mandarin open in a bright citrus sparkle — juice and zest and sunshine — and then the cinnamon arrives, warm and golden, like mulled wine on the stove. Carnation adds a spicy floral depth, jasmine and lily-of-the-valley soft and white, and the cedar-musk base is clean wood and warm skin. It is cheerful and cozy at once — the rare citrus that works in winter. Beginner-friendly.
