Composition
VIII Rococo Immortelle is a masculine parfum from Clive Christian's Noble VIII collection, launched in 2017 and composed by Celia Orozco Cirimbilli. It opens with bergamot and lemon, placing the honeyed immortelle flower at the heart. Papyrus, vetiver and amber form the base. The collection is inspired by the grandeur of the Rococo era.
To me this smells like a strange golden afternoon — bergamot and lemon bright as cut glass, and then immortelle arrives with its impossible scent, honeyed and herbal and faintly of curry leaf, like nothing else in perfumery. Papyrus, vetiver and amber dry it down dry and papery, like an old map. It is inspired by baroque excess but wears like a riddle. Immortelle is a note people either worship or flee from, and there is no middle ground. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
