Composition
Vetiver Tonka is the 2004 Hermessence eau de toilette by Jean-Claude Ellena, a unisex vetiver-gourmand. Vetiver and tonka bean lead, with hazelnut, tobacco, praline, caramel, sandalwood and lily-of-the-valley in support.
Vetiver Tonka does something almost impossible: it makes vetiver — dry, green, rooty — taste like dessert. The vetiver keeps its earthy character, but tonka, praline, caramel and hazelnut wrap it in a warm, nutty sweetness, with a whisper of tobacco for depth. It is cosy and sophisticated at once, like a bonfire with roasted nuts. A cult favourite for good reason. In Indian winters it is pure comfort. Beginners who find vetiver too austere should start here — this is vetiver with training wheels, delicious ones.
