Composition
Épice Marine is the 2013 Hermessence eau de toilette by Jean-Claude Ellena, created with chef Olivier Roellinger — a unisex spiced-marine. Bergamot and sea notes open over cumin, cardamom, cinnamon and rum, with smoked woods beneath.
Épice Marine is a spice merchant's ship caught in sea spray. Cumin leads — earthy, sweaty, unmistakable — over cardamom, cinnamon and a dark rum warmth, all lifted by salty marine notes and bergamot. The smoked-wood base smells of a ship's hold. It is one of the strangest and most brilliant Hermessences: challenging, salty, utterly original. For Indian palates the cumin will feel boldly familiar. Beginners be warned: this is advanced perfumery — sample before anything else.
