Composition
Versus Donna (1992), the legendary feminine Versus in the dark red bottle, launched alongside Versus Uomo. A bold oriental-floral: raspberry, plum, violet, black currant, peach, aldehydes, bergamot and green notes open fizzy and sweet, followed by a heart of sandalwood, rose, tuberose, jasmine and lily-of-the-valley. The base of iris, benzoin, amber, vanilla, musk and cedar is warm, powdery and intensely sensual.
To me this smells like a 1992 power-dressing evening — raspberry, plum, and black currant dark as the red bottle, violet and aldehydes powdering everything like shoulder pads. Sandalwood, rose, and tuberose bloom underneath, and iris, benzoin, and amber settle into pure vintage glamour. The tuberose is creamy and almost narcotic under all that fruit, and the cedar at the base is dry and cool — glamour with a backbone. Bold, fruity, and unapologetically nineties: an oriental-floral that walks into the room first. Beginner-friendly.
