Composition
Princess by Vera Wang (2006) is the fruity-floral Eau de Toilette that launched the designer's Princess line, composed by Ilias Ermenidis and Harry Fremont. Water lily, apple, mandarin and apricot open into a heart of guava, tiare flower, tuberose and a signature touch of dark chocolate, over vanilla, amber and woods. The faceted heart-shaped bottle with a gold crown is one of the most recognisable in mass designer perfumery.
Princess is the Y2K sweetheart — juicy water lily and apple up top, then that famous heart of guava, tiare and a whisper of dark chocolate that keeps it from being ordinary. The dry-down is all vanilla and amber cosiness. It's unapologetically sweet and youthful, which is exactly why generations keep coming back. For beginners: the classic gateway designer fragrance — cheap, cheerful, endlessly wearable, and proof that a simple fruity-floral done well never goes out of style.
