Composition
Un Jardin après la Mousson is the 2008 Jardin eau de toilette by Jean-Claude Ellena, inspired by Kerala, India after the monsoon. A unisex fresh-spicy aquatic: ginger, cardamom, pepper, coriander and citruses over ginger flower, white ginger lily and water notes, with vetiver beneath.
Ellena's tribute to Kerala after the rains is one of perfumery's great place-portraits. Ginger and cardamom rise like steam from wet earth, pepper and coriander add a green-spicy bite, and the heart is all rain-lily and water — cool, transparent, alive. The vetiver base smells of damp soil and roots. For Indian wearers it is Proustian: the first monsoon shower on hot earth, bottled. A masterpiece of freshness. Beginners will find it unusual but beautiful — less a perfume, more a memory.
