To me it smells like roses picked in the month of Chaitra, when spring is at its most generous — petals still wet with morning dew, the scent fresh and moist and alive rather than dried and perfumey. There is something deeply Indian about a rose attar house doing rose this way: honest, natural, like burying your face in a garland at a wedding. It feels like the first day of the Hindu new year, full of promise. Fresh, rosy and pure. Easy to love, even for beginners.
