Composition
Rouge Hermès is a feminine eau de toilette from Hermès, launched in 2000. It opens with Rose, Ylang-Ylang and Iris. The heart reveals Sandalwood, Amber, Vanilla and Cedar settling into a base of Spices and Myrtle. Its character is defined by Woody, Powdery and Rose accords.
To me this smells like the inside of a vintage lipstick — rose and iris powdery as the bullet, ylang-ylang creamy as the wax, that unmistakable cosmetic warmth that smells like getting ready for a night that matters. It's rouge in the most literal sense. Sandalwood, amber and vanilla deepen it into something almost woody, cedar dry as a vanity table, spices and myrtle adding a green, herbal flicker at the edges. It's from 2000 but it smells like 1950, in the best way — timeless, not dated. The color red, translated into scent. Beginner-friendly.
