Composition
Poivre Samarcande is the 2004 Hermessence eau de toilette by Jean-Claude Ellena, a unisex pepper-woods composition. Pepper, oak, paprika, caraway, Virginia cedar, oak moss, patchouli and green notes in a dry, spicy-woody blend.
Poivre Samarcande is pepper carved from wood. Green and black peppers crackle over oak and paprika, with caraway adding an earthy, almost rye-bread depth. It is dry, austere and architectural — the opposite of a sweet crowd-pleaser. Ellena at his most minimal: a study in spice and timber. It wears best in cooler weather and rewards those who like their perfumes cerebral. Beginners should sample first; this is stark, dry elegance, not comfort.
