Oud Monarch (2019) is part of Bortnikoff's 3rd 'Friendly Ouds' collection, dedicated to the majestic power of oud wood. Frangipani and magnolia open it; cinnamon, Rose de Mai, rose and tobacco form the heart; cacao pod, agarwood oud, vanilla, castoreum, civet and labdanum ground the base.
Scent story
Oud Monarch is the friendliest of the great ouds: a sheer floral opening of frangipani and magnolia over burning cinnamon and tobacco, sinking into cacao, oud and animalic warmth. Massive yet fluent -- chocolate-dark, spicy, regal. Beginners: the cacao-chocolate character makes this the most approachable Bortnikoff oud; still a winter evening scent.
