Composition
Opus IX is an oriental eau de parfum for women and men by Nathalie Lorson and Pierre Negrin, launched in 2015 as part of the Library Collection. It opens with jasmine, camelia and black pepper, develops beeswax, leather and guaiac wood in the heart, and settles into civet, ambergris and vetiver.
To me this smells like stepping into a private library in an old colonial bungalow — beeswax candles burning low, leather-bound books, guaiac wood polished by a century of hands. Jasmine and camelia float through it like ghosts of flowers, elegant and white. But there's something feral underneath the elegance: civet, raw and animalic, the smell of something wild pacing behind the bookshelves. Leather creaks, ambergris adds a salty skin-warmth, and vetiver keeps it rooted in dark earth. This is Amouage at its most baroque — gorgeous, strange, and absolutely not here to make friends. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
