Composition
Must II by Cartier is a floral fruity fragrance for women launched in 1993 by perfumer Alberto Morillas. It opens with hyacinth, tarragon, mandarin orange, bergamot, peach and lemon, leading into a floral heart of narcissus, orris root, jasmine, carnation, lily-of-the-valley and rose. The base is rich and woody with oakmoss, vetiver, sandalwood, cedar and musk.
To me this smells like a well-kept colonial garden in the hills just after the morning sprinklers — hyacinth and tarragon sharp and green in the first breath, citrus glinting through like wet lemon leaves. Then it blooms: narcissus, orris, jasmine, carnation, a whole flowerbed pressing in, sweet and powdery and a little old-fashioned. Underneath, oakmoss and vetiver hold it to the earth — dark soil, old wood, something serious. It is the scent of someone who irons their clothes and means it. Beginner-friendly.
