Composition
Cartier's first fragrance for men, launched in 1981 by Daniel Moliere as an oriental-woody Eau de Toilette. Aromatic lavender, basil and juniper open over a spiced heart of pepper, nutmeg and vetiver, settling into sandalwood, amber, coconut, patchouli and vanilla.
Lavender, basil and green galbanum strike first — aromatic, herbal, vintage in the best way — with juniper berries adding a gin-like sparkle. The heart warms with pepper, nutmeg and cloves over vetiver, like an old gentleman's study lined with spice jars. Then the famous base: creamy sandalwood, coconut and vanilla over patchouli and amber, smooth and golden. In India this is a winter-evening and celebration scent with real gravitas. Not a beginner's pick — it rewards those who appreciate classic, old-money masculinity.
