Composition
Sweet, exotic and bathed in the sun. Ripe mango refreshed with sweet orange zest opens over a floral heart of sambac jasmine, ylang-ylang and neroli, on a base of Moroccan oud, vetiver, cedar and oak moss.
To me this smells like an Alphonso mango the second the knife goes in — that impossible golden sweetness flooding out, cut with fresh orange zest so bright it almost stings. It is June in Ratnagiri and the whole orchard smells like this for about three weeks a year. Then the flowers arrive — ylang-ylang and jasmine and neroli, the way a mango grove smells when the trees are blooming and the fruit is still green on the branches. And underneath, anchoring all that sweetness, a dark bed of oud, vetiver, cedar and oak moss — wet monsoon earth after the first real rain. Sweet on top, wild underneath. Like the fruit itself: sunshine you can eat, grown out of dark soil. Beginner-friendly.
