Composition
La Panthère Édition Soir by Cartier is a chypre floral fragrance for women launched in September 2016 by Mathilde Laurent. It presents an animalistic floral-chypre composition: a carnal floral bouquet in the heart set against intensified animalistic notes in the base. Key notes are gardenia, floral notes, musk, oakmoss and animalic tones. It comes in the signature panther bottle with darker shades and an elegant black cap.
To me this smells like gardenias left overnight in a locked greenhouse — white petals going lush, almost feral, at the edges. The musk is warm skin, unwashed silk, and underneath it all the oakmoss and animal notes prowl like something with claws. It is beautiful in the way a panther is beautiful: you admire it from a respectful distance. This is not a daytime gardenia. It is evening gardenia, the flower after dark when its sweetness turns thick and predatory. Gorgeous, but it will eat a timid wearer alive. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
