Composition
Hugo XX, launched in 2007, is a floral-fruity eau de toilette for women. Litchi, black currant and mandarin orange open the scent, with jasmine, rice basmati and rose at the heart. Musk, sandalwood and amber form the dry-down.
To me this smells like a monsoon picnic that went slightly fancy. Litchi and black currant, juicy and tart, mandarin bright as a peeled orange — and then, impossibly, basmati rice: that steamy, nutty, comforting smell of a fresh pot, turned into perfume. It sounds mad. It smells like home. Jasmine and rose float over it, soft and pretty; sandalwood and amber and musk settle underneath like a warm shawl. It's the rare scent that smells like both a fruit chaat and a family dinner. Playful, warm, completely itself. Beginner-friendly.
