Composition
Givenchy Play Eau de Toilette is a Citrus Aromatic fragrance for men launched in September 2008, advertised by Justin Timberlake in an MP3-player-shaped bottle. Created by Emilie Coppermann and Lucas Sieuzac, it centers on Caribbean amyris wood: bitter orange, grapefruit, bergamot and mandarin open into black pepper, amyris, coffee flower and tobacco blossom over vetiver and patchouli.
To me this smells like a city morning that means business — bitter orange, grapefruit, and bergamot bright as a new phone screen, then coffee and pepper, sharp and awake, over amyris and tobacco blossom. Vetiver and patchouli underneath are the good shoes, worn in and confident. The tobacco blossom is sweet and hay-like, not smoky, and the amyris is smooth sandalwood-adjacent wood — coffee with somewhere comfortable to sit. Citrus, coffee, and cool: the scent of someone with somewhere to be. Beginner-friendly.
