Composition
Escale à Pondichéry is the 2009 debut of Dior's Cruise Collection (Escale) by François Demachy, inspired by the former French trading post of Pondicherry in India. A tea-centred eau de toilette, it opens on lemon and black tea with jasmine and cardamom, drying down to sandalwood.
This is Dior's love letter to India — and it shows. The opening is a steaming glass of lemon tea, brisk and aromatic, with cardamom rising like it does from a roadside chai stall. Jasmine softens the middle before sandalwood settles everything into warm, creamy wood. For Indian wearers it feels wonderfully familiar yet refined — a monsoon-afternoon scent. Now discontinued, so bottles are for the collectors. Beginners will enjoy the tea, but the dry-down is drier and more serious than the cheerful opening promises.
