Composition
Part of the Gianni Versace Couture trio launched in 2014, Couture Tuberose pairs its namesake flower with gourmand and amber notes. Aurélien Guichard combined tuberose with almond and ambroxan for a heady, sensual effect. It comes in a refillable glass flacon dressed in pink leather with Greek motifs.
To me this smells like tuberose in a cashmere sweater — almond opening soft and nutty-sweet, and then tuberose blooming creamy and golden in the heart, all honeyed petals and warm skin, none of the usual indolic menace. Ambroxan in the base gives it a modern, ambery glow that hums for hours. It takes the most headstrong white flower in perfumery and makes it cuddly — no small feat, and entirely delicious. The almond is the comfort blanket here — marzipan-soft, it wraps the tuberose before the flower can even think about misbehaving. Beginner-friendly.
