Composition
Coriolan is a masculine eau de toilette from Guerlain, launched in 1998. It opens with Sage, Lemon, Petitgrain, Bergamot and Neroli. The heart reveals Nutmeg, Coriander and Fennel settling into a base of Oakmoss, Vetiver, Leather, Patchouli and Benzoin. Its character is defined by Aromatic, Fresh Spicy and Citrus accords.
To me this smells like a Roman senator's garden — sage and lemon sharp and herbal in the first breath, petitgrain and bergamot bright as marble in the sun. Nutmeg, coriander, and fennel add a dry, ancient spice, like the market stalls below the villa. Oakmoss and vetiver at the base are dark earth and old stone, a whisper of leather like the straps of a sandal. It is classical and severe and quietly magnificent. Benzoin's warm resin softens the severity, like honey on stone. Beginner-friendly.
