Composition
Launched in 1981, Calvin is an aromatic eau de toilette for men. It opens with Chamomile, Neroli and Bergamot, with Tarragon and Orange Blossom at the heart. The dry-down rests on Vetiver and Patchouli.
To me this smells like a diplomat's garden party in 1981 — chamomile tea and neroli on silver trays, bergamot and lemon bright as the small talk. There's a formality to it, but a warm one: tarragon and orange blossom, herbal and generous. Cinnamon and lemon verbena add a spiced, green complexity in the middle, geranium keeping it crisp as a pressed collar. Then the classic drydown — vetiver, patchouli, musk, sandalwood — settles like the evening settling over the lawns, earthy and composed. The original CK: quiet, assured, and aging better than almost everything from its decade. Beginner-friendly.
