Composition
Launched in 1997, Contradiction is a floral eau de parfum for women. The opening blends Lily, Peony and Lily-of-the-valley, leading into a heart of Eucalyptus and Lilac. The dry-down rests on Sandalwood and Musk.
To me this smells like a florist's cold room — lily and peony and lily-of-the-valley and orchid and rose and false jasmine, all chilled and dewy, then eucalyptus like a green shock, lilac and jasmine and blackberry darkening the edges. The base is sandalwood and musk and tonka, woody and soft, the contradiction of the name: cold flowers, warm skin. It is the 90s in a bottle — clean, floral, and quietly strange. Eucalyptus keeps the whole thing crisp as a fresh sheet. Beginner-friendly.
