Composition
Calèche Soie de Parfum is a feminine parfum from Hermès, launched in 2013. It opens with Aldehydes, Citron, Neroli and Bergamot. The heart reveals Iris, May Rose, Damask Rose, Jasmine, Lily-Of-The-Valley and Orange Blossom settling into a base of Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Vetiver and Cedar. Its character is defined by Woody, Citrus and White Floral accords.
To me this smells like a silk scarf from another era — and I mean that as the highest compliment. Aldehydes, sparkling and soapy, like champagne bubbles on skin; citron and neroli and bergamot bright as a polished mirror. Then the flowers: iris powdery as face powder, May rose and Damask rose, jasmine, orange blossom, lily-of-the-valley — a whole bouquet, arranged with terrifying French precision. Oakmoss and sandalwood and vetiver and cedar underneath, like the wooden drawer the scarf lives in. It's classic, composed, immaculate — the smell of good manners and better taste. Beginner-friendly.
