Composition
Après l'Ondée is a feminine eau de toilette from Guerlain, launched in 1906. It opens with Anise, Cassia, Neroli, Bergamot and Lemon. The heart reveals Violet, Orris Root, Mimosa, Carnation, Sandalwood, Ylang-Ylang, Vetiver, Rose and Jasmine settling into a base of Iris, Heliotrope, Vanilla, Musk, Benzoin, Styrax and Amber. Its character is defined by Powdery, Violet and Iris accords.
To me this is Paris after the rain in 1906 — wet pavement, violet pastilles from a paper cone, mimosa and orris root blooming powdery in the damp air. Anise and bergamot sparkle at the top like the first sun breaking through clouds; heliotrope and vanilla warm it from below like almond cake in a patisserie window. It is over a century old and still the most delicate thing I own — carnation, rose, jasmine all softened into a violet-iris haze, benzoin and amber glowing underneath like embers. Wearing it feels like stepping into a watercolor. Fragile, romantic, utterly timeless. Beginner-friendly.
