Composition
Ambre Royal is a unisex eau de parfum from Ormonde Jayne, launched in 2016 and composed by Geza Schoen. It opens bright with bergamot and orange blossom, the heart blending rose, jasmine, iris, osmanthus and amber. The base rests on cedarwood, ambroxan and musk. A big-hearted warm amber originally released as a Selfridges exclusive.
To me this smells like a royal study at 4pm — bergamot and orange blossom opening bright as sunlight through tall windows, and then the heart settles into pure, plush amber: rose and jasmine giving it floral lift, iris giving it powder, osmanthus giving it that apricot-skin softness. It is amber done the Ormonde Jayne way, which is to say expensively. Cedar, ambroxan, and musk in the base keep it warm and glowing for hours, like embers in a fireplace. It is rich but never heavy, sweet but never cloying. If you want to smell like quiet wealth, this is the shortcut. Beginner-friendly.
