Composition
Al-Khatt, from Xerjoff's Oud Stars collection, is an oud-floral eau de parfum inspired by Ibn Battuta's travels. It opens with Calabrian bergamot and jasmine sambac, reveals cashmeran in the heart, and settles into Bangladesh oud, Laotian benzoin and vanilla.
To me this smells like a calligrapher's studio where oud burns while the ink dries. Calabrian bergamot opens bright as fresh paper, then jasmine sambac blooms — white, heavy, intoxicating — with cashmeran smoothing everything like silk under the pen. But underneath, the Bangladesh oud waits: deep, animalic, resinous, the smell of ancient wood and smoke. Laotian benzoin and vanilla try to sweeten the ending. The oud refuses to be tamed. Beautiful and severe at once — like the script itself. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
