Composition
Launched in 2000, inspired by the Marquis de Sade. Artemisia and bergamot open into patchouli, cardamom and coriander, over immortelle, leather, labdanum, elemi, birch, vanilla and cedar. Dark, leathery and provocative.
To me this smells like the inside of a leather tannery in Kanpur that somebody tried to turn into a library. Raw hide and birch smoke hang in the air, dark and animalic, and then — impossibly — a jar of dried immortelle flowers cracked open on a desk, all maple-syrup and curry-leaf sweetness. Cardamom and coriander seed scatter across it like spices dropped on a workbench. It dries down to labdanum and vanilla, like the leather-bound cover of some forbidden book, warm from being held too long. There is nothing polite about it. It smells like candlelight, secrets, and a door you're not supposed to open. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
