Composition
Ysatis is a Chypre Floral fragrance for women launched in 1984, created by Dominique Ropion, an opulent luxury classic. The top notes are citrus, ylang-ylang, galbanum, coconut, rosewood and aldehydes; the heart notes are jasmine, rose, iris, tuberose, narcissus, carnation and rum; the base notes are musk, amber, vanilla, vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood and civet.
To me this smells like 1984 in a crystal decanter — aldehydes flashing cold and brilliant at the opening over ylang-ylang, galbanum, coconut and a whole citrus grove, and then tuberose, jasmine, narcissus and carnation blooming in full, opulent, unapologetic excess. And underneath it all: civet. Animalic, musky, feral — the thing that made the eighties the eighties. Honey, oakmoss and amber try to civilize it, but this is a chypre with teeth, and it bites.
