Bois d'Iris by Van Cleef & Arpels (2009) is a Collection Extraordinaire Eau de Parfum by Emilie Coppermann, an ode to iris pallida. Iris, rose, vanilla and jasmine open onto vetiver and driftwood, with a base of amber and myrrh; the extended note list adds incense, sugar, ambergris and French labdanum. The perfumer describes the wood accord as sun-warmed driftwood, accented by ambergris and labdanum.
Bois d'Iris is iris reimagined at the seaside — powdery, slightly salty iris against sun-bleached driftwood, vetiver and a smoky whisper of myrrh and labdanum. It's minimal but not thin: the powdery elegance sits over an ambergris-warm base that keeps it sensual. For beginners: if you enjoy powdery, refined scents, this is a masterclass — understated, luxurious, and very easy to wear despite the niche pedigree.
