Composition
A woody-floral musk for men launched in 2007, created by Yves Cassar. Lemon leaf oil, ginger, mandarin orange, bergamot, basil and violet leaf open it; tobacco leaf, pepper, Tunisian orange blossom and grapefruit blossom form the heart; amber, cedar, vetiver, oakmoss, Virginian patchouli, leather and cypriol close it. Refined and classy — Tom Ford's signature masculine scent.
To me this smells like a perfectly tailored bandhgala in a cedar closet — lemon leaf, ginger and bergamot snapping crisp at the opening, basil and violet leaf adding a green, expensive edge. Then tobacco leaf and pepper warm the middle, with orange blossom and grapefruit blossom keeping it luminous. Amber, cedar, vetiver, oakmoss, patchouli and leather build a base like old money: dry, woody, assured. A 2007 classic that still smells like competence. Violet leaf adds a cool green metallic edge to the crisp citrus opening. Beginner-friendly.
