Composition
Shagya is an oriental-woody eau de parfum for men by Sidonie Lancesseur, launched in 2009 and named after the Arabian horse breed. It opens with lime, pink pepper and bergamot, develops agarwood (oud), Virginia cedar and geranium in the heart, and settles into vetiver, guaiac wood, papyrus and musk.
To me this smells like an Arabian stable at dawn, and I mean that as the highest compliment. Lime and pink pepper open bright — cold morning air — with bergamot sparkling. Then the heart turns dark and noble: agarwood oud, deep and animal, Virginia cedar like the stable beams, geranium green and sharp. The base is dust and heat — vetiver, guaiac wood, papyrus dry as old scrolls, musk like warm horsehide. It is named for a horse breed, and it moves like one: powerful, proud, and a little wild. Not a scent for standing still. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
