Composition
Santos Concentrée by Cartier is an oriental spicy fragrance for men launched in 1982 as a more concentrated version of the 1981 Santos. It opens with bergamot, basil, lavender and lemon verbena, followed by a warm spicy heart of geranium, nutmeg and chili pepper. The dry-down brings patchouli, sandalwood and amber into focus.
To me this smells like a Goan kitchen at seven in the morning, when someone is already pounding spices. Basil and lavender from the window garden, lemon verbena crushed between palms, and then — a dried red chili snapped in half, that sudden green heat in the back of the throat. Nutmeg grated over everything like dust. It settles into patchouli and sandalwood, like the wooden spice box itself, old and fragrant from years of masalas, with amber glowing underneath like a low stove flame. Warm, peppery, a little wild — the smell of a man who cooks and doesn't apologize. Beginner-friendly.
