Composition
SandalwoodSantal Boisé (2019) by Christophe Raynaud, from the Atelier Versace collection. A woody-spicy composition built on Sri Lankan sandalwood: saffron opens warm and spicy, leading to a heart of smoky cypriol (nagarmotha) and creamy sandalwood. The milky, balsamic sandalwood base is smooth, meditative and distinctly luxurious.
To me this smells like a sandalwood temple at dawn. The saffron opens warm and golden — a brief flare of exotic spice — and then the sandalwood takes over completely: creamy, smooth, meditative, the Sri Lankan wood rich and buttery. Cypriol adds an earthy, almost smoky depth underneath, like roots in dark soil. The amber-musk base is warm skin and soft light. It is minimal and luxurious at once — the Atelier Versace idea of quiet opulence, and it wears like a second skin. Beginner-friendly.
