Sahara Noir is an oriental woody Eau de Parfum launched in 2013, Tom Ford's ode to frankincense and Middle Eastern fragrance traditions. It opens with cistus essence Orpur, bitter orange, Jordanian calamus and Levantine cypress around a heart of frankincense essence, cinnamon, papyrus, Moroccan rose, Egyptian jasmine and beeswax. The amber base is built on labdanum, ambreinol, benzoin, vanilla, cedar, frankincense resin and oud.
Scent story
This smells like a desert temple at noon — heat, stone, and smoke. Cistus, bitter orange, calamus and cypress open arid and resinous, and then the frankincense arrives in waves: essence and resin both, cinnamon and papyrus swirling through the smoke like ancient text. Moroccan rose and Egyptian jasmine bloom briefly in the haze, beeswax sweetening the air, before labdanum, benzoin, vanilla and oud build an amber base dark as old gold. Ford's ode to Middle Eastern traditions is magnificent and merciless — incense as a landscape, not an accent. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
