Composition
Royal Water is a citrus-aromatic eau de parfum for women and men by Olivier Creed, launched in 1997. It opens with citruses, bergamot, mandarin orange and vervain, develops basil, allspice and cumin in the heart, and settles into musk and cedarwood.
To me this smells like a citrus grove after the gardener has crushed herbs between his fingers — bergamot, mandarin and vervain bright and green, sparkling. Vervain adds a green, tea-like freshness, like lemon leaves crushed between your palms. Basil, allspice and cumin move in like a spice market on the horizon, earthy and warm, before musk and cedarwood settle it all into clean, quiet skin. It is the simplest luxury: cold citrus, warm spice, done right. Effortless. It dries down to nothing but clean musk and pale wood, quiet as a held breath. Beginner-friendly.
