Composition
An oriental-woody for men launched in September 2012, created by Olivier Gillotin. Violet, pink pepper, caraway, bergamot and verbena open it; Tuscan iris, Bulgarian rose, black pepper, nutmeg, geranium and clary sage form the heart; Indonesian patchouli leaf, amber, vanilla, civet, leather, opoponax, benzoin, vetiver and styrax close it. Enigmatic and full-bodied, the masculine counterpart to Violet Blonde.
This smells like a locked study in a house with a past. Violet and pink pepper open over caraway and bergamot — strange, green, slightly unsettling — and then the florals arrive powdered and funereal: Tuscan iris, Bulgarian rose, like flowers pressed in a forbidden book. The base is where it gets serious: patchouli, amber, vanilla, and then the animals — civet feral and musky, leather dark as old furniture, opoponax and styrax smoking underneath. Enigmatic and full-bodied, exactly as promised. This is Tom Ford at his most decadent, and it does not hold your hand. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
